Prior to joining this mailing list, review our guidelines below. The principal objective of this mailing list is to provide a public discussion forum of the ideas important to internet professionals who are people of color.
I want to join the list!
Share advice, skills, and job information related to the web, email, and other aspects of the internet as they relate to the IT profession. The list is not a place to discuss general interest topics, such as what you saw on TV last night or your cousin Jim's pig farm business, except as it may affect the internet industry.
On occasion, however, promotions from the Red Ibis website will be posted.
Guidelines:
- Stay on topic.
Posters must stay within the theme of the mailing list topic.
- Keep posts short and to the point.
If you wish to discuss several different aspects of the industry, send separate emails for each topic. Do not send one long email with several different topics.
- No advertisements.
Aside from mentioning your business within the context of the discussion or promoting a job opening, you may not spam this list with your business or someone else's. Some self-promotion to a minor degree is acceptable, however.
- Real names, only.
This is a professional mailing list. Include your real name in the signature. You signature should not exceed six lines. No nicknames, usernames, etc.
- Respond to other posters by name and subject.
When responding to someone else's post, start with: "On 5 November 1998, [Quotee's Name] wrote, "..." so other readers will know to whom and/or what you have responded.
- Personal attacks are NOT acceptable.
Respect for everyone on the list is a condition for joining. Disagree without being disagreeable, threatening or otherwise obtrusive.
- Liability for posts belong to the poster.
Each person on the list is expected to be responsible for what he or she writes. Red Ibis is not responsible for libelous, copyright infringing, etc. statements made by participants on this list.
Violators of list guidelines will be advised and warned within private e-mail messages; however, frequent or egregious violators may be subject to public humiliation on the list and/or removal from the list, as deemed necessary by the list administrator.

Types of Posts:
- Job Postings:
Job offer posts are acceptable. Put the word JOB in your Subject header and please instruct applicants to reply to your email address.
- UNacceptable Postings:
- attached files
- spam
- chain letters
- libelous posts
- your resume
- illegal use of someone else's copyrighted material
- 'flame mail'
- re-posted material of more than 40 lines
- classified ads, such as apartment or office space offerings or searches, lost animals, personals, buying or selling goods, etc.
