  Overview

  Straighten up and Fly Right

With an objective of promoting excellence among technology businesses owned by people of color, redIbis is strategizing to garner investment dollars, client prospects, and business resources for these innovative firms. Originally founded in November 1998 as an interactive career-networking forum among Information Technology (IT) and Technology professionals of color, redIbis is evolving into a not-for-profit technology business chamber of commerce for people of color owned and/or majority employed businesses.

Charging itself with the multiple tasks of:
  • Promoting these technology companies
  • Ensuring high-business standards within these firms
  • Encouraging technology innovations among developers
  • Highlighting the accomplishments of technology innovators, and
  • Supporting the initiatives of technology educators and organizations

redIbis is paving the way for people of color to soar in a multi-ethnic technological economy.

Birds of a Feather, Flock Together

redIbis is a non-competitive organization that works to foster business, career networking, and educational opportunities among information technology (IT), technology, and telecommunications business owners and industry professional organizations of color. At present, three national organizations, the internationally influential Association of Chinese Computer Professionals (http://www.gnyccp.org), the nearly 30-year-old Black Data Processing Associates (http://www.bdpa.org) and the fast-growing Hispanics in Information Technology & Telecommunications (http://www.hittglobal.org), are our key strategic partners involved in planning, promoting and co-sponsoring multi-cultural and multi-ethnic redIbis events. Collectively, we share a vision that technology businesses by people of color must thrive in order to ensure a bright future for American as well as global economies.

  About the Name...

redIbis takes its name from the Scarlet Ibis, a bird indigenous to the tropical regions of the world including Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, South and Central America. The name, redIbis, is written using a common structure found in the JavaScript coding language in which multiple words are written as one word with the first letter lowercase and the first letter of the next word uppercase. Hence, redIbis is Red Ibis.

  Organizational Objectives

    redIbis has five primary objectives:
  1. Business: To garner business and funding for IT and Technology businesses of color (or majority employed businesses of color) and entrepreneurs of color.
  2. Development: Serve as a launch pad for the creation of IT and Technology collaborative projects among technology developers.
  3. Public Policy & Media Relations: 1. Become active in legislation that impacts people of color particularly as it pertains to the IT & Technology industry. 2. Produce media products for both technology and non-technology media outlets in order to raise the profile of POC (people of color) in technological fields.
  4. Education: Aid EXISTING technology training programs and services by raising funds and/or the profiles of high-quality organizations and training centers.
  5. Outreach: Aid programs of EXISTING IT and Technology organizations such as BDPA, HITT, etc. Provide cross-ethnic networking opportunities and forums where these organizations can more readily promote themselves to the mainstream and non-technological business world.
